PUMA and Sophia Webster announce debut collection

Global Sports Brand PUMA and British Accessories Designer Sophia Webster announce their partnership for a collaborative dance-inspired collection of footwear, apparel and accessories debuting in Fall 2017.

This season, Aspinal remains true to its artisanal roots of making handcrafted quality leather goods with a distinctive British style, drawing inspiration from the ages of elegance whilst also looking towards the future.

Building on the brand’s iconic heritage styles The Marylebone, The Brook Street and The Mayfair, Aspinal has created complimentary new bags to add to the core collection; The Pearl Bowling Bag and The Editor’s Bag are reflective of a refined English sensibility, practical and are designed and made to be loved for a lifetime.

From Vermeer’s famous depiction of “Girl With A Pearl Earring” through to contemporary fashion, the pearl has long been a symbol of elegant perfection. Aspinal follows a journey through many decades as this timeless gem is reinterpreted in the new Pearl Collection, combining allusions of the Art Deco era with a more modern take on vintage sophistication, whilst the 1940s and 1950s provide inspiration for the new Editor’s Tote and Mayfair Collection.

Senses are awakened to rich textures and contrasts throughout the new collections, from luxurious furry softness to crisp croc printed leathers, pearl detailing with high-shine polish leather to magical blasts of colour.

The colour palette is grounded in oh-so-feminine chanterelle and luxe forget-me-not with dashes of dusky pink and the palette is given extra depth with rich bordeaux, navy blue moon and black.

Textural depth is expressed in contrasting pebbled, smooth and polished leathers. Luxurious highlights include croc printed leather, frosted hardware and pearl detailing. Tactility and luxury are watchwords throughout.

Taking inspiration from Aspinal’s iconic feather symbol, Shipley has created a magical Pegasus figure, ethereal and resplendent in pearl white. Hand-drawn pearly constellations, planets, galaxies and shooting stars surround this mythological creature which is digitally printed onto key bag silhouettes and beautiful silk, twill and cashmere blend scarves. “I’m a huge fan of Aspinal of London and the collaboration is an exciting opportunity to translate my detailed pencil illustrations onto bags, using the most beautiful craftsmanship,” explains Shipley. Autumn presents a veritable palette combining bolder prints and textures. This season sees maximalist take over; brocade fabrics, liquid metal finishing and opulent velvets pull the collection into an era of dark glamour.

Winter khaki tones and utility inspired styles are introduced pre-fall, harnessing the season’s rebellious spirit. Dramatic hardware, cleated tread soles and burnished metallics enhance classic brogue and ankle boot profiles.

Rich, decadent fabrics evoke a notion of moody romance; electric blue and deep berry velvets cover ‘over the knee’ boots whilst brocade and lace textures feature on ankle boot and heeled silhouettes. Further fabric details emerge later in the season; gold tapestry, poetic winter florals and glossy black patent leathers add auxiliary allure.

Satin proves to be a key texture within eveningwear, with elegant ribbon trims wrapped over pointed profiles and ballerina tie fascinating’s adding interest.

Heel details are key this season; varying from spikey kitten, to high block cylinder shapes coated in foil. Platform heels are covered in metallic glitter and adorned with jewels playing into the maximalist trend.
